The Eighties                    1980

The May production of 1980 was " See How They Run" by Philip King. Mavis Spooner directed and all the regulars were involved plus Patrick Carter  as the Bishop of Lax and Alan Mee managing the  lighting and sound effects. David Ellis and Neville Bidwell continued their long and happy collaboration (!) in constructing the set.

"The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew" by Robert Bolt followed in November. This event was something of a departure for the Eversden Players. For a start there was a ten page programme designed and printed by Graphiques of Eversden House Cottage - lots of adverts, cast of plenty, synopsis, and a form for new members at the back ("only £2.50 per year and £1 for anyone under 18").

1981

Noel Coward's " Hay Fever" filled the hall for three nights in May 1981. Patsy Hinchcliffe did the programme which still included Bob and Jean's warm welcome to The Hoops. The cast, which included some new members,  was as follows:

Carolyn Sharman, Simon Bowen, Julie Maling, Sylvia Sullivan, David Ellis, David Dalton, Lynne Clark, Angela Fordham, and Nick Lumby. Fiona Ellis produced the play and Mavis Spooner stage-managed. Frank Fitzsimmons helped Richard Ellis with the lighting and sound effects.

November's play was "The Farndale Avenue Townswomen's Guild". No programme has turned up so far.

1982

In 1982 the Eversden Players performed "Bad Day at Black Frog Creek!" by John Gardiner and Fiz Coleman. For the first time, the Players had use of the new stage extension. But that was not all. The membership profile had changes dramatically (!) since the last production and now the club boasted more members under 18 than over! The cast list includes a roll-call of the early eighties village youth.

Joanna Hayes, Robbie Beynon, Joanne Beynon, Eddy White, Shelagh Bidwell, Nick White, Adrian Yeneralski, Katie Hayes, Simon Pagram, Joanna Richford, Denise Carter, and Rachel Yeneralski. Emma Beynon was the director. Lynne Clark was the producer. Andy Street, Millicent Ellis, Simon Bowen, Leslie Holland, Robert Suttle, Gary Presland, Darren Weston, Fiona Ellis, Betty Mallows, Liz Laurie, Angie Day, and David Ellis were all involved. To get a dozen or so teenagers to make such a commitment was a tribute to somebody.
"Pool's Paradise" was the November performance.

1983

"The Creature Creeps" by Jack Starkey was performed in 1983. This too was crammed full of youngsters -  joiners AND stayers.

This was a golden age for the Players with two shows a year, lots of members, and good audiences.

And YES, the Eversden Players (1986) did do Macbeth! Click here
